SPENCER, N.C. — Now is a great time to take a last minute family trip to the N.C. Transportation Museum. Not only is the new school year just around the corner, but time is running short to enjoy the museum’s on-site train ride every day of the week. Train rides will operate daily through Labor Day Monday, Sept. 3, but beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4, the museum will switch to its fall operating schedule and train rides will be offered on Saturdays at 11 a.m., 1, 2 and 3 p.m., and on Sundays at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. During the week, train rides will run only when there are scheduled group tours. The public is welcome to join train rides operating for scheduled groups, but visitors should call the museum before arriving to see if a train is running on that day. To schedule a group tour, or to inquire about the N.C. Transportation Museum’s on-site train schedule, call 704-636-2889, toll-free at 1-877-NCTM-FUN, or visit www.nctrans.org. The N.C. Transportation Museum, located in historic Spencer Shops, the former Southern Railway repair facility for steam locomotives, is part of the Division of State Historic Sites, Department of Cultural Resources. The museum offers free admission and is conveniently located just five minutes off I-85 at Exit 79 in Spencer, N.C., and about an hour from Charlotte, Greensboro or Winston-Salem. # # # |
